Software enables the computer to perform specific tasks. Businesses are probably the biggest users of application software and almost every field of human activity uses some form of application software. Business Software is the application software that allows the end users to accomplish one or more specific tasks. It is used to automate all sorts of functions.
Business software is any software program that assists a business to increase its productivity or measure their productivity. The term “business software” covers a large variation of the uses within the business surroundings, and can also be categorized by using a small, medium and large matrix.
Generally, a small business market consists of home accounting software and office suites such as the Microsoft Office and OpenOffice.org. The medium size or SME has a broader range of software applications that range from accounting, customer relationship management, groupware, shopping cart software, human resources software, field service software, and other productivity enhancing applications.
The last segment covers the enterprise level software applications such as those in the fields of enterprise resource planning, enterprise content management ECM, business process management BCM, and product lifecycle management. These applications are wide in scope and often come with modules that either add native functions or incorporate the functionality of the third-party software programs.
